Many of the other churches contain specimens of an architecture even more elaborate than those of Moscow. Among them may be named, as remarkable edifices, the cathedral of Nikolskoi', and that of Peter and Paul, more modern than the first named. The city has in all about thirty-five churches, nine convents, and sixteen mosques.
